I
I took this series of photographs one gloomy, grey December afternoon in the back yard of Pula’s Rojc building. The place used to be a vast army barracks complex, and has been given to various art and public enterprises in recent years.
I loved the barren, derelict atmosphere of the yard. The set is not really about the many wall drawings, it’s about depicting the general sense of the place. I was trying to compose the images very carefully, so that you can perhaps feel what I felt when I was among those walls: kind of hopelessness and desperation, peppered with lurid imagination of whoever had decided to leave, over time, their mark there.
